We slashed the price because first and foremost we want to make sure you can be there. This Festival is about gathering…

Ze Frank to host the Vimeo Awards!
We are very excited to have Ze Frank host the first-ever Vimeo Awards on October 9th.
Ever since his “How to Dance Properly” viral video — born as a party invitation for 17 friends — hit the Web in 2001, Ze Frank has been pushing the boundaries of online entertainment. His web site, zefrank.com, is a mess of addictive videos, toys, essays and games, and has been a testing ground for a dizzying array of viral hits (and some spectacular failures.) In 2006 Ze launched a year-long daily video blog called “The Show.” which Slate.com referred to as “ the best sustained comedy run in the history of the Web.” His rapid-fire delivery and absurd explorations in audience participation (e.g. Earth Sandwich) has influenced a generation of digital native video creators.

This show will be the can’t-miss event of the Vimeo Festival + Awards. So much so that we are opening it up to the public for all to view. So tell all your friends.
This projection mapping show will literally bend your mind at 10pm sharp on October 9th at 555 West 18th St.
seeper, one of the best projection mapping collectives in the world, will transform the Vimeo/IAC HQ building using real-time 3D content to be projected and aligned to the building itself.
For those of you who are unaware, architectural projection mapping is an emerging medium that pushes the boundaries of art and technology. It is fitting that this performance has been chosen as the culmination to the inaugural Vimeo Festival + Awards because we discovered and commissioned these guys through their profile on Vimeo. Because they rule. And we love to spread the love.
This performance is generously made possible by the Honda CRZ Sport Hybrid.
Don’t miss this.

Sophie Susser, 12, asked us to publish this story about a lake near her grandparents’ house that has dried up. “What would have been the bottom of the water is parched, cracked land.” We agree that it’s an important story, so we’re posting it here for her. Thanks for bringing it to our attention, Sophie!

Wow! This past weekend exceeded our wildest expectations. The screenings of the finalists’ works were very well attended, and the experience of viewing these exceptional videos in a true theater setting was amazing. The Awards ceremony on Saturday night was first-class, all the way. Ze Frank hosted with the combination of professionalism and humor that we knew he’d deliver, and his “co-host” - the three dimensional, projection-mapped screen/sculpture - took the ceremony to the next level. Full video of the evening coming very soon, don’t worry. For now, here’s a teaser. The Vimeo Awards finalists were all deserving of praise, and the winners were gracious in their acceptance speeches. When Eliot Rausch stepped up to the podium to accept the award for the Documentary category, his shock and appreciation were obvious. Later, when he returned to accept the award for Best Video and the $25,000 grant towards his future work, his genuine gratitude moved us just as much as his film, ‘Last Minutes With ODEN’ had. It was truly a special moment for everyone in the room. And the winners are:Narrative: “Thrush” by Gabriel Bisset-SmithDocumentary: “Last Minutes with ODEN” by Eliot RauschMusic Video: “Liars ‘Scissor’” by Andy BruntelAnimation: “Between Bears” by Eran HilleliOriginal Series: “Break-ups The Series” by Ted TremperExperimental: “oops” by Chris BeckmanMotion Graphics: “TRIANGLE” by Onur SenturkCaptured: “Fluid Sculpture”by Charlie BucketRemix: “BREAKDOWN the video” by KasumiThe great thing about this being a celebration of online video is that you can watch all of the winners right on our Awards site!
